They Say it Happens

They say it happens.

That one day you become more and more like your Mom as you get older.

It has been happening in my world bit by bit through the years.

Her influence is ever present in my life.

This morning I have to say, as I puttered around the kitchen, I couldn't help but smile and get a warm fuzzy when I realized the small things with her influence stamped all over them.

I boycotted the gym in favor of an extra 90 minutes of sleep this morning. Darn you New Moon. Darn you for keeping me up past my "bedtime".

So when I peeled myself out of the comfort of my warm bed, in which I was snuggled up with both of the kitties, I was in my nightgown.

Mom and nightgowns were one in the same.

It was cold in my place this morning. Instead of grabbing my robe from the back of the door, I put a hoodie on over my nightgown and slid my feet into my slippers.

Mom used to wear sweaters with her nightgown from time to time and you could pretty much find her in her beloved ballet looking slippers at any time of the day or night.

I have not made the switch over to those kind of slippers. I'm still rocking my plush elephant ones in case you're wondering.

Yes, go ahead and take that in for a moment. I was in a burnt orange and gray Longhorn hoodie over a pink and black pinstriped lace nightie sporting pink striped socks and padding around the place with my baby blue and pink elephant slippers.

Hey, I didn't say I was going for the sex appeal factor a'right?

As I rubbed the sleepies from my eyes and made way toward the kitchen, I decided I wanted toast and tea for breakfast. That's it. Nothing more. Nothing less. Toast and tea.

As I fed the babies, talked to Pacomo, made my chai tea latte, and placed the bread in the toaster, I smiled. A big ole smile. Mom used to start her mornings off with buttered toast and a cup or two of coffee.

It's happened. I am my mother's daughter.

And you know what? It is more than all good.

Peace and Love Peeps.

Ah, Mom Memories... so cool. I have many of mine too. :)

Now forget about that toast and bring some of your chai tea latte over to my place... something scrumptious awaits.

I want the chai tea latte too. Actually, I've never had one but I know I'd like it. I'm like my mom in so many ways. I just pray I don't have a stroke like she did. I get all my energy from her.
