Soundtrack Tradition

Started in 2012 and continues today, the first day of 2013. 

The only difference is since I purchased maybe 10 songs in 2012, I have to rely upon Pandora's shuffle for 2013. 

It's a fun way to expose see what you listen to and how your musical tastes may change from year to year.

So, with this being said, here's how you play if your life were a movie, your soundtrack would be. . .

1. Open your music library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)

2. Put it on shuffle

3. Press play

4. For the first question, type the song that's playing

5. When you go to a new question, press the next button TWICE

6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...just type it in man!

As was the case last year, some of the results are just down right funny to me. To quote my niece, shuffle is the new magic 8 ball. It's Yoda wise.

13 on the 13th

Starting something new. 

On the 13th of each month I will post random facts about me, things I am grateful for, ponderings . . . whatever thought comes to mind first when I sit down at the computer. 

Bringing the tag line of the "Welcome to Me" to life for all to see. 

1.  Thankful for the nourishment the bowl of oatmeal just provided.  Even though it was somewhat of a let down taste wise, at least I am blessed to wake from my bed, walk to my kitchen, and have food in the pantry.  None of that should be taken for granted since many in the world don't have the same.

2.  Treadmill, yoga, or weights today.  Maybe a combo of two but moving is on the agenda for sure.

3.  This vacation day is full of personal to dos - shopping, cleaning, visit to the DMV, filing, maybe cleaning out of a closet.  I wonder how much I can squeeze into a day full of promise. 

4. Found out from a friend, who was gracious enough to take the time to snap a picture and text it to me, all Paper Zones are closing.  Everything is on sale.  Do I dip into the crafty budget and stock up or be a good girl and resist the urge?

5.  Speaking of paper, I need to make time to bust out a few Happy 2012 cards and design this years' V Day love in the mail cards.

6.  It's cold but oh so pretty outside right now.  The world is screaming come out and play in me.

7.   I want to go out and play but I have tons to do.  An unorganized home makes me less happy inside and efficient. 

8.  My cat . . .she's awesome. I'm glad she picked me. 

9.  "Everything Counts" by Depeche Mode just came on random play.  I heart that song and the memories associated with it. 

10.  They say scent is the strongest recall.  I agree with this and also think music is right up there as being the strongest recall.  I hear a song and boom, I'm transported back in time. 

11.  Speaking of back in time, I was struck with the thought of live life forward last night.  You know the voice inside of you that whispers, then talks, and lastly beats you upside the head until you hear AND listen to what it is saying to you?  Well you may not have a voice like that but I do.  I heard it speak loud and clear last night.  Live.  Life.  Forward.   

12.  I am currently reading more non fiction books than fiction.  Inspiration and learnings abound.

I'm going to start a new tradition of sorts. 

On the first day of each new year, as I delight in black eyed peas, I am going to do the soundtrack to my life. 

My friend Heather has posted hers on facebook for the last 3 years.

25 Random Things

If you are on facebook you've probably been tagged with this too.

Yes y'all, I am on facebook. I also have a myspace. I twitter. Obviously I blog. There are pieces of me floating all around cyberspace.

So in case you want to peek more into my life and have not seen this on facebook, here are my random 25 facts, habits, goals, and/or things about me.

Some of them you may have already seen or know from a previous meme.

1. I believe in God.

2. I am a first generation American. Unfortunately I didn't learn French from either of my parents back in the day as they were told having their children be bilingual would hamper their ability to be successful. Thank goodness society knows better now.

3. I am the baby of six. I have four older brothers and one older sister.

4. Even though I was bred, born, raised, and lived in Texas for 27 years I have come to consider the Pacific Northwest home these days. Flying into DFW doesn't give me the same sense of home as landing at SeaTac does.

5. One of my guilty pleasures is to watch reality TV. Real World, The Hills, The City, Real Housewives, etc., allow me to totally “escape” the daily grind.

6. I still sleep with a teddy bear one of my brothers gave to me for a birthday years ago. Some of you may remember “him”; does Spooky ring a bell?

7. I am thankful, blessed, and believe my life is richer and fuller for the friends I have chosen to surround myself with. They keep me grounded and tell me like it is, even when I don’t want to hear it but know I need to be checked, and love me for who I am and the crazy life I lead.

8. Sometimes I don’t unpack my suitcase from one business trip to another. I send my clothes out via the concierge service which makes packing a lot easier on those back to back trips I sometimes have to do.

9. I am a list maker and task doer. If it doesn’t get written down, I may totally forget about it but living this way keeps me organized and on top of multiple priorities.

10. My favorite color is cranberry.

11. I am a huge scent oriented person with my preference leaning toward fall and spicy scents (i.e., home sweet home, pumpkin spice, etc.).

12. I try to make my bed every day before I get going. There is something comforting about seeing a made bed upon my arrival home.

13. My late teens and early twenties were not the healthiest of times for me and as a result I don’t take my health for granted. I have had two knee surgeries, a foot surgery, an emergency gall bladder surgery (the old fashioned way), my wisdom teeth surgically removed, and my tonsils taken out.

14. If my bra and bottom don’t match, I feel off for the whole day. No one else may know or see them but I know.

15. My favorite type of food is Tex-Mex. Spicy is good.

16. I love to read and often have two or three books going at the same time. I take full advantage of the public library system and will vote for a tax increase any time one is on the ballot as a result.

17. I fall into the 15% of the population that does not qualify for Lasik.

18. I miss my Mom something fierce but take comfort in knowing she is watching out for me from above and will welcome me when my time comes.

19. The only thing I write in cursive is my signature, which is only my first initial and married last name.

20. Speaking of married, I married and divorced the same man, twice.

21. I don’t drink coffee. I prefer tea. I will have a double shot espresso when I am exhausted and need a pick me up.

22. I juice with my Jack LaLanne power juicer at least five times a week when I am not travelling.

23. I channel and am in touch with my inner rodent. I heart cheese.

24. I am a texting fool.

25. If I could wear my Uggs every day I would but 95% of the time you’ll find me in heels.

1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?

Yup. My first name is after my Mom. I have the English version of her name. My middle name is after my paternal grandmother.

2. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?

For the most part yes. Like Tina I print. The only thing I write in cursive is my signature and y'all, that does not even include my full name. It is only my first initial and last name. Hey I am nothing if not efficient.

3. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?

Cajun Spiced Turkey Breast. If this is not available I'm Ms. Boring and like the old standby, Turkey Breast.

Nope. Those bad boys were yanked in my early twenties and I wondered why it took so long for me to have the operation. I used to catch every little cold and bug-a-roo that wanted to take up residence in my body. Now a days, not so much.

Depends on the situation and whom I am looking at but if I had to say one thing I hone in on, it'd be the eyes.

My level of, or rather lack thereof, physical activity but I am making movement to change this.

6 random things you may not know about me

1. I like to sleep on the left side of the bed and must be cuddled up with my teddy bear when at home or a pillow when I am in another bed.

2. I have ink. It is a butterfly with cat eyes. Princess' eyes to be exact and is a "hidden" spot. It symbolizes freedom, independence, rebirth, awareness, and landing on your feet. I got it at a point in my life when I was starting to self realize and for a lack of words this morning, coming into my own.

3. I watch reality tv for mindless entertainment.

4. Although I love my cats, I do miss having a dog.

5. I name things. Plants, toys, cars, cameras, etc. Everything is fair game and in my mind's eye deserving of a name versus being simply an object.

6. I am the baby of 6. I have four brothers and 1 sister.

If you are curious like I am, which I think you are, you also want to know what holds the stuff I have in my purse. My current favorite bag is this one. Very functional. Simple. Classic. Right up my avenue. The bow matches the lining and since it has not fallen off yet, I am continuing to rock and roll with it. Some people don't care for it but since I do, there it remains.

I'm feeling a tad exposed now.

As for the story in the pile. Y'all know I have a bit of organizational OCD. The proof, is as they say, in the pudding. I carry things in bags in a bag. I do this in suitcases too by the way. Most people would have the items in the beat up Ziploc bag and the plaid cosmetic bag loose in their purse, bag, briefcase, etc.

Nope, not me. I like them to be separate and contained. Partly this is due to travel. You know the whole liquids have to be a certain size and be in a quart size bag regulation. In the spirit of keeping it real, I like things in their place. And apparently I have a thing with um, wanting to be clean, while ensuring my hair can be put up if needed, and keeping my skin and lips hydrated.

The most important thing in there? Hands down it is the business card holder. ID, access to funds, health care, and peace of mind from AAA is muy importante.

The most embarrassing thing in there? I'm not embarrassed by anything in there. I do get some funny looks for Spanky from time to time however.

What's the smallest thing in there? Chopstick helpers.

Is there anything illegal in there? No. Sorry to disappoint you.
